State Right-of-Way Hay Harvesting Permits Available July 1

A new program will enable Nebraska landowners to receive hay harvesting permits for the right-of-way of state maintained highways. Interstate highways and freeways are excluded from the program.

Landowners whose land abuts state right of way will have the first opportunity to receive the $40.00 hay permits between July 1 and July 30. After July 30, anyone may apply. Proof of one-million dollar liability insurance must accompany every application. Applicants should identify the desired area for their hay harvesting, by highway and reference post numbers.

These adjoining landowners who receive permits can begin harvesting on July 15, but others are restricted to harvesting between August 1 September 15. The $40.00 permits will be available at NDOR area maintenance offices located across Nebraska. The complete Rules and Regulations for hay harvesting can be found at http://www.transportation.nebraska.gov/hay/, or by calling your local state highway maintenance office. Permits are governed in accordance with Chapter 39.
