John and Verda Kozeal are the proprietors of Verda's Cafe located on the west side of south eighth street in Burwell. Although just a small cafe, Verda strives to provide her customers with good home cooked meals in a friendly, small town atmosphere. The weekly lunch specials are a variety of home cooked items in large portions, Verda doesn't believe anyone should leave her cafe hungry. The menu at Verda's cafe is a standard cafe menu, but the lunch specials are by Verda's design and the results of years of home cooking for her family. Many of the recipes, like the recipe for her bread pudding, are not written down and are made by Verda the way she has always made them. "A little of this and a little of that, I'm not too much into measuring, it's just the way I've always made it." Verda's Cafe is open weekdays and weekends at 6:00 am and closes at 2:00 pm. Friday nights the cafe remains open until 8:00 pm and is now featuring an all you can eat fish and barbeque ribs special. Breakfast is served all day on Saturdays with a $.99 all you can eat pancake special and the cafe now offers a children's menu.
